I’m Lisa, a mum of three kids ages four and under and I can’t wait to show you how easy it can be
to just eat real food.
I made this little video for you to meet me and my family...
It was a lightbulb moment. When my baby began to eat solids and I had no idea what ‘healthy’ food was.
Were the organic squeeze packets healthy? Was rice cereal healthy? Was pasta healthy? How much fruit was OK? Why was everyone starting to talk about gluten and grains and keeping them away from kids?
When I really started to think about it, and look around at the food I considered ‘normal’ I realised that my normal was far from it.
I looked on the back of packets of food and saw things I had no idea about. Numbers and ingredients I didn’t recognise. Would these be healthy for son? And if they aren’t healthy for him - well what about me?
All I wanted was to nourish this little human. I wanted to create a healthy food culture for our family. I realised that I needed to dig a little deeper. And so I realised I needed to go back to school.
I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and became a certified Health Coach but, in truth, all I got was MEGA CONFUSED! I was exposed to 100 different dietary theories. ONE HUNDRED! All of these diets could prove ‘with science’ that theirs was the most effective way to eat. Paleo, Atkins, low-carb, raw, South Beach, vegan, vegetarian etc.
It was overwhelming and made me a little crazy.
I just wanted to know what the heck to feed my family!
So I started to do something crazy.
I ate real food or 'wholefoods'. I avoided things that had an extensive ingredient list or came in a box as much as humanly possible.
It was hard at first, and my husband was a little confused. But over time I noticed some major changes:
- I began to feel better. In fact, I felt great.
- My kids were actually eating it--and asking for seconds (my husband too).
- My grocery bill is now less than when I started (because of some great tricks I learned along the way).
It sounds so easy to just ‘eat real food’ – but even armed with all the info, I have still found it a huge transition and an ongoing challenge.
That’s OK – there’s some pretty big things to learn but there’s also some really basic stuff that you can get started with straight away. The main point is – I’m off and away. And now, there’s no looking back...
I honestly believe that everything changed when I began taking small steps towards the bigger picture. I worked on shifting the way I thought about food. I am so passionate about helping other people do the same.
If I can do this... You can do it too!
Let’s go back to basics. Let’s take back control. Let’s introduce REAL food back into your family’s diet and make wholefoods the norm.
Because let’s face it, we are way off track with food.
We buy way more than we know. We buy additives and preservatives and fillers and pesticides and the list goes on.
We've all popped some frozen fish fingers and potato gems in the oven (because the kids will eat them) and served it up with tomato sauce.
And a little guilt.
Because we know it shouldn’t be this way.
If you can relate and are now FREAKING OUT, don’t worry! It’s not your fault. You are the majority. I was too.
But here’s the important thing: it can be different for you. WITHOUT having to double your food budget, or spend hours in the kitchen...and the best part is, your kids will start to gobble up a healthy dinner and ask for seconds. More about HOW you can do that in just a moment.
- Feeding wholesome foods to your family instead of processed junk that can trigger allergic reactions or cause tantrums and meltdowns.
- The feeling of ease in your life as things get simplified and food is enjoyable again.
- Knowing how to incorporate more real food into your meals and even looking forward to those meals!
- Experimenting with new ingredients in your kitchen without breaking the bank or spending hours and hours in the kitchen.
- A life without food guilt? (Here's the thing we all slip up!)
- Being inspired by the most experienced and insightful wholefood and wellness experts.
- Incorporating a simple yoga move, a simple exercise and a simple mindfulness movement into your day - enhancing your wellbeing.
- Guidance, inspiration and encouragement in OVERLOAD to help you on your way to change things in your family for the better.
Through this program you will:
- Learn about why wholefoods are the best way to nourish your family AND how to cook a stack of real food meals.
- Grow in confidence with your cooking
- Empower yourself with knowledge so that you can make better food choices for life
- Be the creator of a healthy food culture in your family so that your kids grow up knowing what real food is.
- Increase your repertoire of healthy meal ideas so that you can always get something easy on the table.
- Have access to experts in their field giving you cutting edge knowledge around food and health.
So How Did We Get So Far Off Track?
Our food culture has changed beyond recognition to what our grandparents, or even our parents had when they were growing up. Food companies are busy spending millions of dollars testing products to make sure they are just sweet enough or salty enough or addictive enough for you to LOVE them and want more and more.
Get this - “A survey of American schoolchildren found that 96 percent could identity Ronald McDonald. The only fictional character with a higher degree of recognition was Santa Claus.” Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, page 365
And then remember that clip from Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution where the kids couldn’t recognise a tomato - or cauliflower - or even a potato?! Oh and let's not even mention the 'chicken nugget' clip - gross!
We’ve got things so messed up.
And if this makes you feel angry, it should.
But guess what? You have the power to change this for your family.
But where to start?
Because it IS so overwhelming!
And there IS so much (contradictory) information!
Everyone is pushing one line or another.
I know you might feel frustrated that you don't have the answers.
Perhaps you’ve gone ‘paleo’ or ‘low-carb’ or ‘Lite’n’easy’ and NOTHING STICKS. And you feel guilty.
I want to help you remove the guilt and recognise that everyone is different. The foods that make me feel fantastic might make you feel sluggish. We are unique beings and no one ‘diet’ is the answer. You are your own ‘silver bullet’. But you want some tools, I hear you.
Here’s the thing. Even though there is a TON of conflicting information and misconceptions out there, I haven’t yet met anyone in the health industry who would say eating more real food is bad for you.
It’s the ONE THING everyone agrees on!
But can we just get real for a moment? Overnight success is hard to come by with changes to diet. This program is purposefully based on the concept of taking small steps.
Let’s face it - we have habits of a LIFETIME to change. And change is hard. I can’t flick a switch and never feel like a Snickers again (well, in fact, now I don’t crave them - but it took a while!).
That’s really what Small Steps to Wholefoods is all about - taking small steps for big changes. It's an 8-week course that gives you a chance to explore real food ideas for your family, and the tools to make it happen step by step, at your own pace.
It's not about restriction or denial or guilt, it's about feeling better and nourishing our families the best we can.

"I did a happy dance across the kitchen!"
“I just finished the last 'food interview' with Jude tonight, and I'm really sad that the course has come to an end. You have been to me, what Jude clearly is to you. So thank-you from the bottom of my heart. Last week the fussiest of my three ate carrot and capsicum sticks, pesto pasta and a green smoothie, and I did a happy dance across the kitchen. He looks pretty happy with his smoothie moustache too!” Xxx - Jamie

Listen, I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and guilty and stressed out about food.
I know what it’s like to have my eyes opened to the scary reality that processed and packaged foods might be contributing to ailments within my family.
I know what it’s like to continue buying the same stuff but wishing I wasn’t.
I know what it’s like to want to change and having no idea how to start.
You have the power to change your life and open your eyes to the simplicity and JOY in wholefoods eating.
This program will help you do that.
I can’t wait to see you in this round!
PS. My whole life my Dad taught me that everything was OK ‘in moderation’. I rebelled against it (of course) but am finding more and more that he was right (except in the case of margarine - that stuff is NEVER OK!)
PPS. “Nature has a way of correcting itself and coming back to balance” was another Dad fave. I believe this is the situation we have found ourselves in. We have gone so far off balance with food (ie - the food we are eating is not actual food - hello Twisties!) that we are seeking a way back to balance. We know we need to.
Can’t wait to see you soon x
Want a sneak peak of some of the amazing guest interviews?
But what happens after 8 weeks?
I’m so glad you asked! I have an exclusive membership site for my Small Steppers who want to continue their journey. They get continued access to the course content and NEW information, inspiration and education every month.
They learn how to take their ‘next steps’ once they’ve mastered the basics. All participants of Small Steps to Wholefoods will be offered the opportunity to continue on in a month-by-month or annual basis. Details are supplied once you are in the program.
How much time will I need to devote to Small Steps?
There is a lot of information that comes your way! You'll have lots of short videos from me and the guest interviews range from ten minutes to 45 minutes. So Small Steps becomes your TV station! Be prepared to watch the content, create a little time and space to take it all in. Our experts are very generous with the information they share. That’s one of the reasons why each module takes two weeks - one week you receive info daily and then next week you can implement a few ideas and catch up on vids if you haven't had time to watch. (If you have difficulty watching videos online or just prefer to see information written down, the videos will be available as transcriptions for you and audio files).
Are there menu plans?
No. After years of joining programs that provide me with a menu plan that I couldn’t follow due to not being able to afford or find ingredients, or my family not liking the meals, or not finding meals appealing, or feeling crap because I fell off the wagon and thought I’d failed – I designed a program with a whole stack of ideas (there are 20 pages of recipes in the eBook you receive upon completion!) that you can pick and choose from throughout the program to suit your family and your budget.
Can I follow this program if I don’t eat gluten/dairy/sugar etc?
YES! While this is not a ‘paleo’ program, a sugar-free program, a vegetarian program, it provides so many ideas for foods that you are bound to find something that suits. The FB group is a fabulous place to share recipes for more specific dietary needs.
My approach is that no specific food groups are off the table – but we should always strive for the BEST quality food at all times.
What if I know NOTHING about wholefoods?
Even better! This is the best starting point. The information is wide ranging and everything is explained clearly. There is support via the FB group to ask your questions – no question is too silly!
Is it expensive to buy all the ingredients?
NO! The whole course is about taking small steps when you are ready and when the budget allows. We focus on a meal each week so you don’t have to change everything at once. In fact, all throughout the program, I focus on celebrating small achievements – because with every small step you are getting closer to creating a sustained change.
Do I need to have a family to benefit?
NO! Most of the information is generic, however there is a slant on family food in the guest interviews. Some focus specifically on kids stuff – like the Real Food Lunchbox ideas interview with Jen Shaw.
Is this suitable for my husband?
YES! So many participants in Small Steps wrote and told me the biggest breathroughs were happening in their family because their partners were viewing some of the videos and starting to ‘get it’. But I would say that the program is most VALUABLE for those that do the shopping and preparing of food.
I’ve been learning a lot about wholefoods, will I get anything out of the course?
Good question! I am not a wholefoods goddess – I’m still learning too. But I’m learning from the best and you will be exposed to the women who have inspired me on my journey – most of whom are mums doing their best too. Good health is also about so much more than the food we eat. That’s why you’ll find information about mindset and movement.
